Computer and Technology Services Firm Releases Guide to Malicious Software

A Burbank-based computer and technology services firm released "The Malicious Software Guide" for small businesses. (March 23, 2006)
According to a recent audit by Webroot and Earthlink, malicious software "may reside on up to 90 percent of all Internet-connected computers." A Burbank-based computer and technology services firm has just released The Malicious Software Guide (PDF), an educational tutorial geared toward home computer users and small offices lacking a dedicated information technology staff. This guide is designed to educate consumers and other computer users about the dangers of malicious software such as adware and spyware.

This issue not only affects home computer users but also to corporate computer systems that are used for mission-critical work. According to a survey by internet security experts Watchguard, "two-thirds of IT managers named spyware as the number one threat to their networks in 2005." The guide explains what spyware and adware are along with the dangers they present to the users computer. It has been described as "simple to understand" and "outstanding" by other information technology service providers who have received advanced copies. The Malicious Software Guide goes on to provide simple steps users can take to protect their computers along with free resources to combat the threat.
