Company 3 Supports Public Service Effort Promoting Breast Cancer AwarenessProvides post services for film focusing on families of cancer patients (February 21, 2006)
Company 3 recently lent its support to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Giraldi Suarez Productions toward the production of a short film and an accompanying public service advertising campaign designed to raise awareness of breast cancer and its impact on families. A leading supplier of post production services to the advertising and entertainment industries, Company 3 provided color correction and other post services for the project and also lent its studios as a location for the shooting of the film.
The film and PSA campaign were written, directed and produced by Giraldi Suarez Productions Bryan Litman, who was inspired in part by his mothers recent struggle with breast cancer. Litmans father, J. Walter Thompson, New York, creative Michael Litman, served as creative director. The spot was edited by Scott Rankin of Northern Lights.
The film offers fresh insight into breast cancer by focusing on the diseases effect on patients families through interviews with the loved ones of recent breast cancer survivors. The film also includes segments with Evelyn H. Lauder, Founder of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and other experts in the field who discuss current efforts to find a cure.
?Breast cancer never affects just one person; everyone close to the patient is impacted too, explained Bryan Litman. ?Our intent was to make a film about the larger circle of breast cancer survivors and to communicate the message that no one goes through it alone.
Litman sought support for the project from other members of the New York film and advertising community. Giraldi Suarez Productions, where Litman works as a producer, agreed to produce the film. Northern Lights Post provided editorial facilities and Company 3 provided color correction and final post services. Litman also shot most of the interview segments in Company 3s studios in Manhattan.
Litman had previously worked with Company 3 on commercial and independent film projects. ?We wanted to work with people whom we knew and who were as excited and interested in making this film as we were, he said. ?We were very appreciative of the willingness of Company 3, and others involved in the project, to lend their time, effort and creativity.
Company 3 Colorist Billy Gabor performed the color correction work. As Litman recorded the interviews on digital video, Gabors role was to enhance the visuals by giving them a filmic look and to help set the mood. ?We wanted it to feel serious and emotional without looking manipulated, said Gabor. ?We wanted people to feel the humanity.
The interviews with the family members of breast cancer patients are meant to be more than informational, according to Litman. They are intended to inspire empathy among viewers. ?We want to draw people into the stories, Litman said. ?We hold for a long time on faces, and we show a lot of reaction shots. We also make good use of composition and color.
?Billy was very helpful with that, Litman added. ?He knows how to direct the viewers focus to certain aspects of the frame. He knows how to make a face look interesting when its on the screen for an extended period of time. He gets it.
Litmans finished 10-minute film will be used in The Breast Cancer Research Foundations fundraising efforts. Additionally, Litman used the material to cut a series of 30-second television spots that will be distributed to broadcasters nationwide.
