Companies Look to CAD for Improved Profits

High-Tech Software Will be Featured At CAD/CAM/PDM Pavilion at Pacific Design & Manufacturing (November 20, 2001)
Many companies are seeking ways to stay profitable in this uncertain environment. The search is leading many of them to the product development process, where new software holds the promise of rapid turnaround times and increased customer satisfaction.

One very popular software that allows engineers to have more control of the design process is 3D computer-aided design (CAD). Rather than creating a two-dimensional drawing, 3D CAD allows designers to create a 3-dimensional computer image that can be easily manipulated to simulate how the finished product will look and function.

It is part of a new generation of software -- which includes computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), product-data management (PDM), computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM), and finite element analysis (FEA) -- that is revolutionizing the product development process.

One of the best ways for manufacturers to evaluate this leading-edge technology is to visit the CAD/CAM/PDM Pavilion at Pacific Design & Manufacturing -- the Feb. 5-7, 2002 tradeshow at the Anaheim Convention Center. Product developers will have the chance to view the latest in CAD/CIM, Catia, ProEngineer, SolidEdge, FEA design analysis software, PDM and ERP solutions, and more.

VX Corp., one of the show's exhibitors, offers integrated CAD/CAM solutions. The company will demonstrate its latest software -- VX Version 5 -- an interactive program that offers a complete design-through-manufacturing solution.

"Version 5 improves productivity and enables companies to design better products that their customers will be very pleased with," said Vince Mercurio, marketing manager for VX Corp.

The broad-based Pacific Design & Manufacturing show will feature more than 400 exhibitors presenting a variety of products and services for the electronics, telecommunications, aerospace, instrumentation, computer, transportation, industrial equipment, and consumer products industries. It will be co-located with the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) West, PLASTEC West, and Electronics West trade shows.

Produced and managed by CANON COMMUNICATIONS LLC, the shows are part of CANON'S worldwide family of trade events. Information on them can be found at or by calling 310/445-4200.
