Comdex: Ricoh Ships 4.13 Megapixel Camera

Caplio RR1 includes 72 MB storage By Dave Nagel
Ricoh today unveiled the Caplio RR1, a one-inch-thin 4.13 megapixel digital camera. The new USB-based model includes 8 MB of onboard media and a 64 MB SmartMedia card, for a total of 72 MB of storage. The camera is available now for $699.

The new model is targeted toward both consumers and professionals. On the professional end, it offers three aspherical lens elements and the ability to capture uncompressed images. In addition to uncompressed, it has automatic settings for Fine, Normal and Economy. Ricoh says the lens design minimizes light dispersion and maximizes light refraction "to get a remarkable 200 mm/line resolution across the entire zoom range." It also includes a pivoting LCD display, a 3x optical zoom (10.8x total) and a 0.4-inch macro.

It can also capture video and voice, though specifications for these features were not available at press time.

The RR1 also features "text mode," which records printed material or a whiteboard in a black and white image whose density can be adjusted. Also, an in-camera cropping tool trims images directly in the LCD. The camera also has dual shutters positioned for vertical or horizontal pictures.
