Combustion 2 Ships Soon

OS X-native compositor to be released in next 10 days By Dave Nagel
At the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, I had a chance to visit with product managers from Discreet's Cleaner and Combustion lines. Both products have been announced for OS X, but I learned at the show that Combustion 2 will actually be shipping in the next 10 days. (You read it here first.)

Combustion is Discreet's compositing and motion graphics package that blends several high-end features into a desktop package. This includes keying features from Flame and color support that includes linear and log, 8-bit, 10-bit, 12-bit and 16-bit per channel support. Its keyer and garbage mask also make their way to the Mac by way of Flame. It also gains network rendering capabilities--cross-platform--and improved support for output to Discreet's higher-end packages.

In terms of film tools, Combustion 2 combines features from both Flame and Inferno. These include LUT controls and grain tools for matching any film stock currently in use.

On the showy side, Combustion 2 gains a new particle system that includes real-time previews and support for virtually and user-defined particle, including motion QuickTime files with alpha channels.

We'll bring you a more in depth look at Combustion 2 next week. For more information, visit
