Colorization Is Back And In High-DefWest Wing Studios provides high-res color conversion and F/X capabilities (July 26, 2004)
Recently established West Wing Studios, Inc. (WWS), which has fast become the premiere facility for High-Definition restoration and High-Resolution Color Conversion capabilities, has expanded its operations to include offices in Los Angeles, Tucson, Tampa and production studios in Goa, India.
Founded by Vivek R. Rao, who serves as Chairman and CEO of West Wing Studios, Inc. and headed by industry veteran, Stanton Rutledge, the Company is focused on the huge growth potential in the digital color conversion, restoration and enhancement of filmed entertainment for high definition television and cinematic exhibition through their proprietary technology.
“In a short time, our clients have come to expect and receive a high level of quality through their association with West Wing Studios,” explained, President and COO, Stanton Rutledge. “We’re excited that studios around the world are recognizing the demand for high-definition and film content, and for color conversion of their library to make these valuable assets available for re-broadcast or re-release and home entertainment.”
The company recently completed work on several ground breaking, high-definition color conversion and digital restoration projects for three major studios and production entities for release to the home entertainment markets. Release of their first slate of films is planned for summer of 2004.
According to one studio representative, “After being involved with hundreds of colorized features and TV episodes since 1987, West Wing Studios not only met our stringent quality demands but provided us the best colorization projects I have ever been associated with. Their attention to detail and engineering know-how is unparalleled.”
While the company’s primary business initially has been the production of high-resolution, color conversion of motion pictures and television programs originally produced in black and white, plans call for a growing staff in research and development to take digital color capabilities to new heights.
Leading the technical staff for West Wing Studios is Art Director, Jane Parks, who has been involved in art direction for film coloring clients for over 17 years. She worked under Mr. Rutledge at CST Entertainment overseeing the art and color design of over 200 film and television titles. Her talent as an artist and her ability to work with clients has made her the best in the coloring business. She is requested by all the major studios such as MGM, SONY, Warner Bros., Disney, Gaumont, and others, when they have a coloring project. Her teaming with Stanton Rutledge again creates for WWS an unbeatable team. Ms. Parks has a background in theater; set, makeup, costume design & scenic painting which are invaluable for this film coloring medium.
