Colorado driver killed by branch in windstorm

Colorado driver killed when tree branch snaps in wind, crashes through his windshield By The Associated Press

DENVER (AP) ' High winds sweeping through the Northern Rockies have forced the shutdowns along long stretches of highways and resulted in at least one death.

A Colorado driver died at a hospital after suffering fatal injuries in a freak accident when a tree branch snapped off in a heavy gust and smashed through his windshield.

The Denver Post reported (http://bit.ly/vLkMHF ) about 19,000 wind-related power failures throughout Colorado.

At least three semis were toppled by the wind in the Denver area. Ski areas delayed the opening of some lifts until the winds subsided in the afternoon.

And in Wyoming, the winds scuttled eastbound cross-country travel when a nearly 100-mile section of I-80 was closed between Laramie and Rawlins. Also an 80-mile section of U.S. 287-30 was shut down in both directions.
