Cobra Receives Three CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering AwardsFirst Major Award Wins for 2012 Herald Continued Momentum and Recognition After More Than a Dozen Prestigious Design and Innovation Honors in 2011 (November 10, 2011)
CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwire) -- 11/10/11 -- Cobra Electronics Corporation (NASDAQ: COBR), a leading designer and marketer of award-winning consumer and mobile electronics, today announced it has been honored by the CEA with three International CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Awards in three distinct product categories. Products entered in this high-profile program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products across 32 product categories.
Specifically, Cobra was recognized with 2012 CES Innovations Awards for the following products:
Cobra iRadar automotive Smart Detection System was the industry's first product to combine industry leading radar/laser detection technology with the power of your smartphone. The second generation of iRadar takes detection to the cloud. The Cobra iRadar Community allows users to report and warn other users of live police, caution areas, and photo enforcement areas in real-time. In addition, when an iRadar detects a safety alert or caution it can automatically share this information with other iRadar Community users nearby.
Cobra Tag G5
Misplacing smartphones, keys, laptops and other essentials is inevitable. The new Cobra Tag G5 is a small, sleek key fob device with a free companion smartphone app and uses Bluetooth® wireless technology and a separation alarm to link your valuables to your smartphone -- ensuring you never leave your valuables behind. The Cobra Tag G5 is a Bluetooth Smart device, leveraging the new Bluetooth v4.0 Low-Energy (BLE) standard for extended battery life of six months or more when paired to a Bluetooth Smart Ready mobile phone.
The Cobra JoyRide for Android smartphones evolves the way your phone behaves when you enter and exit your vehicle by automatically reconfiguring the phone for in-car usage. The companion Android app communicates with Cobra's charging accessory and opens up a whole new world of possibilities for personalizing how your Android phone operates in the car. Pushing a single button can initiate phone calls, launch voice commands, share information about road hazards and live police, pause and play music, and even launch GPS navigation apps or other favorite in-car applications.
"These three new honors from the CEA cap an amazing year of more than a dozen awards and special recognition for Cobra's breakthrough innovations and product designs from some of the industry's most prestigious associations and publications," said Sally Washlow, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Cobra Electronics. "We have a powerful lineup of exciting new products planned for 2012, many of which will be unveiled at CES in Las Vegas, so all of us at Cobra Electronics look forward to another year of honors and accolades in 2012."
The Innovations Design and Engineering Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the producer of the International CES, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, and have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976. The Best of Innovations honor is awarded to the products with the highest judges' scores and will be featured in the Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase at the 2012 International CES.
Products chosen as an Innovations honoree reflect innovative design and engineering of the entries. Examples may include the first time various technologies are combined in a single product or dramatic enhancements to previous product designs. Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering honoree products are featured on www.CESweb.org/Innovations, which lists product categories, as well as each product name, manufacturer information, designer, description, photo and URL.
Cobra's award-winning products will be on display at the 2012 International CES, which runs January 10-13, 2012 in Las Vegas. Honorees will also be displayed at CES Unveiled: the Official Press Event of the International CES from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, January 8 in the Venetian Ballroom of the Venetian.
