Ciprico to Showcase DiMeda Enhancements at NABNative Apple and iSCSI support headline improvements (April 13, 2005)
Ciprico Inc., a leading storage solutions provider for the data-intensive and high-performance digital media markets, today announced several enhancements to its award-winning DiMeda family of network-attached storage solutions. Ciprico will showcase the enhancements at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show, April 16-21 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Ciprico will be demonstrating DiMeda 1724 with iSCSI support, adding block access capabilities to its existing file based access architecture. A single DiMeda now supports both block and file access to a storage device, enabling support for a wider range of applications and enabling storage consolidation onto a single appliance--ultimately simplifying the overall management of different classes of storage. iSCSI functionality will be available on DiMeda beginning in summer 2005. Other enhancements to DiMeda 1724 simplify storage management, including the ability to create a single file system of up to 8.0 TB, a single window to manage multiple 1724s, and the ability to support DVD archive solutions from DAX. DiMeda 1724 is also designed to easily upgrade to 10Gb Ethernet network speeds by simply replacing the 1Gb network interface cards with 10Gbit cards - which can easily be done in the field. 10Gbit Ethernet will be needed to support larger collaborative workgroups with greater stream counts and /or higher resolution video streams of high definition content.
Ciprico's DiMeda 1700 now natively support Apple clients--at the same high performance levels as PC clients. Unlike other network-attached storage solutions, Ciprico's DiMeda family is designed specifically for the content creation marketplace, where a mix of Apple and Microsoft platforms is commonplace. It is critical for production workflows that each client attached to the shared storage achieve the full performance available from the network.
"We have designed DiMeda for the collaborative workgroup environments of non-linear editing and content-delivery applications to provide the highest available stream count in the industry for standard-definition and high-definition compressed video-editing applications. These enhancements make it even easier to deploy and maintain on-line shared storage in the deadline-driven environments of broadcast and post production. We remain committed to providing superior performance-based value to our broadcast and post-production customers," said Ciprico President and CEO Jim Hansen.
Ciprico will demonstrate the power of DiMeda 1700 with its native Apple support in a collaborative workgroup environment, and the DiMeda 1724 in a joint compressed HD newsroom demonstration with its partner Video Technics in booth SL3628 at the NAB show. In Suite 1969 of the Las Vegas Hilton, East Tower, Ciprico will showcase DiMeda's iSCSI support, DAX archive integration, and upgrade ability to 10Gbit Ethernet.
Ciprico designs, manufactures and markets storage and system solutions for digital media applications within the broadcast and post-production, video security, and military and government market segments. Ciprico hard disk based storage solutions are designed to provide best-of-breed performance-based value for video-intensive broadcast play-to-air, non-linear editing, content creation and delivery applications. Ciprico is headquartered in Minneapolis, with a development and sales office in Agoura Hills, Calif., and sales and reseller offices in the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan.
