Ciprico To Showcase DiMeda and MediaVault Storage Solutions

Innovative storage solutions for 2K, 4K film playback and collaborative HD editing shown at IBC (September 08, 2005)

Ciprico Inc., a leading storage solutions provider for the data-intensive and high-performance digital media markets, is debuting two products at the Amsterdam IBC 2005 that enhance workflow productivity in formats from DV - through SD and HD - all the way to 2K and 4K film for the broadcast and post production arenas. Ciprico will give live demos of 10Gb Ethernet-based HD and 4Gb Fibre Channel-based 4K frame rate playback in Hall 7, Stand 607.

The Ciprico DiMeda NAS systems are specifically designed to provide multi-stream networked storage capabilities to media professionals. The current DiMeda 1700 and 1724 models are used widely in DV based content creation and delivery areas such as newsroom production for edit and play-out.

With sustained performance of 300 MB/second and 12 TB of raw storage capacity, the new Ciprico DiMeda 10G builds on the success of the DiMeda 1700 and 1724, supporting DV, SD, and lower resolution HD non-linear video applications, global command and control applications, and is ideal for regional broadcast stations. The DiMeda 10G is the first NAS device to feature a 10-Gigabit Ethernet connection, which provides easy integration into existing Ethernet networks, while providing much higher performance than Gigabit Ethernet performance comparable to networked Fibre Channel. DiMeda supports centralized file sharing between Windows, Mac, and UNIX users, using standard network protocols that allow multiple users to simultaneously capture, process, and share rich media files between workstations, servers, backup, and archival systems.

The MediaVault product line consists of the widely popular U320 SCSI arrays, used in prosumer and boutique video areas, and the only currently-shipping 4Gb Fibre Channel array that delivers the reliable performance needed for todays most demanding post production and digital intermediate applications. All MediaVault arrays are compatible with Mac, Windows, Unix, and Linux platforms, as well as major brands of video editing software, capture/playback hardware, and post production software.

The new MediaVault 4110 is debuting at IBC. This compact array combines the latest 4-Gigabit Fibre Channel interface technology with cost-effective ATA drives, providing up to 4TB in a thin 1U rack mount enclosure. A single 4110 is capable of recording and playing back the highest quality video from multiple streams of uncompressed SD to HD. Two 4110s striped together can sustain throughput of almost 600 MB/second enough for dual stream HD. Multiple 4110s striped together can record and play back 4K uncompressed film. At $2/GB, the MediaVault 4110 undisputedly offers the best price and performance in the market. Six units striped together, providing greater bandwidth than the 1.2GB/s needed for 4K, are under $40K MSRP.

Mr. Jim Hansen, Ciprico Chairman and CEO said, ?For almost three decades, Ciprico has been supporting the growth of the global creative class. We strive to provide the digital media palette that is at the center of the artists ability to create, manage and archive their content.

?At IBC we continue our industry-leading efforts to provide the performance, reliability, and value that our pre-media, video, film, and broadcast customers require, which allows their art to evolve and their economics to improve. Our 1724/10G DiMeda product line being introduced at this show has already been installed in global broadcast environments, providing the ?Broadcast Certified reliability that has always been the hallmark of Ciprico products. The MediaVault 4Gb product line 4210, 4105 and now 4110 offers content creators the first affordable 4K film editing platform ever available. It is rapidly evolving into an industry standard for the digital cinema market as evidenced by the ubiquity of the MediaVault arrays in booths throughout IBC. Visit our stand or our partners to see real-time 4K playback at a price your financial officer will admire.
