Ciprico MediaVault 4210 Compatible With ASSIMILATE SCRATCH

RAID storage array for 2k playback compatible with DI workflow system (November 17, 2005)

Ciprico Inc., a leading storage solutions provider for the content creation, broadcast and delivery markets, today announced the compatibility of its Ciprico MediaVault 4210 RAID storage array for 2k playback with the SCRATCH Data-Centric Workflow Solution from ASSIMILATE, Inc. The array combines the latest 4Gb Fibre Channel interface technology with affordable, high capacity ATA disk drive solutions that have established the MediaVault product family as a leading storage choice for film and video post production professionals.

SCRATCH is an integrated, data-centric, real-time 2k workflow solution used in the digital intermediates (DI) process that is a rapidly growing trend in film and HD post production. SCRATCH empowers creative and post professionals working on visually complex, full-resolution, high-quality, long and short-form films with a streamlined DI workflow that enables increased productivity and even greater control at the vital stages of film production. SCRATCH compatibility with Cipricos MediaVault 4210 array empowers users with a reliable and affordable optimized storage solution that will notably facilitate and enhance the DI process.

James Hansen, Ciprico President and CEO, explains, ?We are pleased to announce the compatibility of our MediaVault 4210 RAID storage array with the ASSIMILATEs SCRATCH DI workflow system. The DI process is revolutionizing the post-production process by increasing the quality and richness of digital manipulation, color correction and visual effects, and Ciprico is committed to becoming a dominant provider of compatible storage technology for this important emerging market. The combined platform of SCRATCH and the MediaVault 4210 with the robust 4Gb Fibre Channel technology, will enable an increasingly efficient and more productive DI workflow. Storage that is scalable, open, stable and reliable is critical for todays post environment in general and DI applications in particular. We look forward to SCRATCH users turning to Ciprico for innovative solutions capable of storing High Definition and Standard Definition content and data for 2k playback.

The 10-drive, dual-channel MediaVault 4210 supports 1080i HD at 10 bits in HDT (High Definition Turbo) mode and up to seven uncompressed Standard Definition video streams. The array is fully compatible with Mac, Windows, Unix and Linux platforms, as well as major brands of video editing, capture and playback cards/devices, and can be configured in a variety of capacity options ranging from 1.6TB to 4.0TB.

MediaVault arrays allow users to select either RAID 0 or RAID 3, depending on the application. The 4210 array is capable of sustained performance of 500 MB/s in RAID 0 with a two-way stripe. In RAID 3 HDT mode, the 4210 array offers newly publicized Read speeds of 500 MB/s and Write speeds of 300+ MB/s. RAID 0 provides the maximum performance and RAID 3 provides protection against data loss if a drive fails. Additionally, users can configure HD-Turbo mode to ensure HD data rates are maintained throughout the entire formatted capacity of the array. And, in the unlikely event of a drive failure, the MediaVaults highly efficient RAID engine rebuilds failed drives in the background.
