Cinesite Promotes Dan Lombardo to VP of Production

(December 06, 2001)
Dan Lombardo has been named vice president of production at Cinesite Hollywood. He joined Cinesite last April as senior producer.

"Dan is a talented and innovative visual effects producer who has demonstrated his ability to complete the most challenging creative projects on time and on budget," says Ruth Scovill, president and COO, Cinesite Hollywood. "In this new role, he will be responsible for assembling and managing the team and tools that are needed to help the filmmakers we serve to realize their creative goals. We worked together at Digital Domain, and it's fulfilling to promote people with drive and talent."

"Cinesite has been on the leading-edge of the digital effects revolution for more than a decade," says Lombardo. "One of my goals is to expand our capabilities in 3D character animation, while continuing to build on our strong base of talent and technology to keep pace with the changing expectations of the creative community. We are a full-service facility that provides a great atmosphere for filmmakers. We are committed to providing creative solutions and delivering outstanding visuals on time and on budget for every project-large or small."

Lombardo studied at the University of Southern California and began his career at Amblin Entertainment. Lombardo then joined Dream Quest Images, where he led the team that earned an Emmy for best visual effects for Universal Television's Earth 2. Lombardo extended his expertise in creature work at Digital Domain on such films as The Island of Dr. Moreau and was later asked to handle the BAFTA award-winning The Fifth Element.

Subsequently, Lombardo broadened his career as vice president and executive producer at Computer Film Company (CFC). He extended the company's range to include telefilms and commercials, in addition to creating visual effects for such feature films as Armageddon, Devil's Advocate and The Insider. When Manex purchased CFC in 1999, Lombardo was asked to stay on board as head of production, overseeing visual effects for a variety of films including Mission Impossible 2.

Cinesite recently completed work on Spy Game, Ocean's Eleven, Vanilla Sky and Ali and is currently working on the upcoming Mothman Prophecies. With facilities in Hollywood and London, Cinesite provides a wide range of visual and physical effects, digital film mastering, digital film restoration, preservation and DVD services. Cinesite is a Kodak subsidiary and part of the company's Entertainment Imaging division. For more information, visit the Cinesite website at
