Cinematographer Bob Poole Captures Wildlife Imagery With Lightweight Fujinon HA25x16.BERD HD Lens

(December 07, 2006)
DMN Newswire--2006-12-7--

KETCHUM, ID, December 7, 2006 ? From the remote rainforests of Gabon in West Africa to a nature preserve in the Patagonia, director of photography Bob Poole captures pristine, high definition images for wildlife, science, sports and adventure television with Fujinons HA25x16.5BERD HD ENG-Style lens mounted to a Sony F-900 HD camera. Since January of this year, Poole has flown back and forth between his home in Ketchum, Idaho and Gabon - where he is shooting wildlife footage for an upcoming National Geographic special about the preservation of 13 of the countrys National Parks. The special, called Gabon is scheduled to air on The National Geographic Channel, BBC and NHK.

Since Poole often shoots on foot and carries heavy loads, he needs a long lens that allows him to make quick changes. In the past, Poole had been burdened by heavy support systems for lenses. Because the HA25x16.5BERD is so lightweight and doesnt require a support system, its extremely easy to handle. Poole can carry the camera with the lens on, or in his backpack, and can easily switch from a wide-angle to the long lens in a matter of seconds, as opposed to minutes.

"Its remarkable to me that Fujinon was able to get such a long and fast lens into such a small piece of equipment," Poole said. "I work under a lot of time pressure and must get a shot instantly before its over. There are other lenses with the same functionality as the HA25x16.5BERD, but they weigh more and take more time to change."

Weighing only 6.5 pounds, the HA25x16.5BERD is a compact telephoto lens ideally suited for gyro-stabilized platforms in aircraft, wildlife photography in remote areas and HD surveillance applications, where light weight and unobtrusive appearance are critical.

The Fujinon lens has become a part of Pooles standard equipment package. "I dont go anywhere without it so if I suddenly want a shot I know I have the ability to throw up a 400mm lens. Its been great for my work. Its really improved my footage" he said.

Poole uses the HA25x16.5BERD with a Preston Mircroforce zoom control, creating very accurate images. "The two pieces of equipment work really well together," he added.

Poole will soon begin work on another National Geographic Special about a nature preserve in the Patagonia region in Chile. For more information on Poole, visit
