Cinemanow Launches Video-on-demand WebsiteWebsite enhances streaming experience with CinemaLater book marking functionality and implements simplified user interface (August 07, 2001)
The feature-enhanced site represents a step forward in the ability to provide users with easy access to CinemaNow's continuously growing library of feature film titles, which now totals more than 1,000 films, while providing a simplified user interface for the service's pay-per-view and subscription content.
CinemaNow is debuting a customized version of Microsoft's Windows Media Player that features "CinemaLater". The book marking function CinemaLater allows users to save their places at any time during a film and resume watching at that exact point whenever they return to the site.
In addition to CinemaLater, the CinemaNow player also provides the ability to change streaming speeds "on the fly" while the film is playing, along with full screen viewing and full VCR functionality; all of which are designed to provide the best video-on-demand experience available via the Internet.
CinemaNow CEO Curt Marvis commented, "With almost two years of experience serving millions of users, we are confident that the site we have created is the most user friendly experience for watching movies on-line. With simple navigation for hundreds of films, an easy and secure payment system, and access to special features and related links, CinemaNow provides the leading technology and content model for true video-on-demand.
CinemaNow continued to grow all areas of its business in June and July, 2001. In June, CinemaNow delivered nearly 2.5 million streams to over 550,000 users, while its pay-per-view and subscription services added thousands of new users.
CinemaNow integrated several new marketing campaigns on the site from advertisers, including AT&T, Toyota, and Ramada Inn. Ramada, in conjunction with its national Mr. Bill campaign, ran streaming video ads in front of CinemaNow's exclusive Mr. Bill content. Beginning this month, CinemaNow will offer a special promotion for all subscribers of the CinemaNow Premium Pass, CinemaNow's monthly movie subscription plan. The offer allows all Premium Pass subscribers to receive free movie rental coupons good at participating BLOCKBUSTER stores.
CinemaNow, Inc. (cinemanow.com), currently streams more than 250 feature length films, using the Windows Media Player on a pay-per-view, subscription, and ad supported basis.
