CinePostproduction, Germany, Increases Output With New Data-Centric BrightDrive Media Recording System(April 07, 2008)
DMN Newswire--2008-4-7-- Bright Systems, Inc., a leading developer of file server and infrastructure technology for the postproduction industry, has announced that one of Europe`s longest established film specialists, CinePostproduction, has installed a high capacity BrightDrive advanced media recording system at its branch, Bavaria Bild & Ton. The BrightDrive Pro4 provides media sharing functionality for Bavaria Bild & Ton`s extensive HD and DI creative media facilities based at the famous film studios in Geiselgasteig, Munich, Germany.
By using BrightDrive as the infrastructure for all of their postproduction workflows, operators at CinePostproduction Bavaria Bild & Ton are able to work on the same media simultaneously in real-time, sharing files between a da Vinci 2K and a Baselight 4. The system is configured with 30TB of online fibre channel storage and 60TB of Fast SATA nearline storage. They also have a BrightDrive Server High Availability (HA) option providing additional redundancy, and a BrightDrive GigE Expansion option which provides extra Ethernet and fibre channel interfaces for greater speed and systems flexibility.
The new system enables CinePostproduction Bavaria Bild & Ton to enhance its data-centric postproduction workflow. Benefits include streamlining and optimizing use of resources by allowing operators to work on the same files without duplicating media for each workstation, and without having to wait for media to be passed to them from an earlier process as would be the case in a linear workflow.
"BrightDrive is giving us solid, high performance media sharing capabilities which are easy to use, fast and reliable," Jan Froehlich, Business Development, D-Cinema, CinePostproduction Bavaria Bild & Ton. "Our workflows are now highly efficient and we have a very collaborative and effective working environment. We have also been able to significantly speed up the flow of work and have reduced our average ?time to completion`."
BrightDrive enables digital media to be shared across all postproduction and DI workflows including ingest, conform, editing, effects, 2D and 3D animation, color grading and compositing, irrespective of the mix of operating systems in use. Ethernet, Fibre Channel and video networks can be used, delivering media at speeds greater than real-time and in any resolution.
