Chinese Broadcasters Spend 13 Million Euros on ThomsonThomson receives four major industry awards at BIRTV 2004 (September 02, 2004)
Continuing to gain favor within the Chinese broadcast and professional production markets, Thomson, the world leader in integrated solutions (technologies, equipment, and services) to the entertainment and media industries, today detailed more than 13 million euros in major orders in the past few months for its Grass Valley brand digital production and acquisition systems and an increase of 35% growth in the region year on year. The Group also announced it has received four major Chinese broadcast industry awards.
As a sign of the very first steps in getting the Chinese broadcast industry ready for full HD coverage of the Chinese 2008 Olympics, Tianjin TV in Tianjin City, China, purchased in June a full complement of Grass Valley HD cameras and a production switcher and router, all of which will soon be installed at a new all-digital HD production studio. The Tianjin TV HD Studio project will be completed by the start of the fourth quarter of calendar 2004 with the installation of seven Grass Valley LDK 6000 mk II HD cameras, one 2 M/E Grass Valley XtenDD HD switcher and a Grass Valley Trinix HD/SD routing switcher.

Thomson Receives Four Major Industry Awards at BIRTV 2004
Further solidifying its leadership position in the Chinese market, Thomson was awarded four separate technology awards at the Beijing International Radio, TV & Film Equipment Exhibition (BIRTV) conference held August 23 through 28 in Beijing. The Group received two ?Grand Awards, for the Grass Valley LDK 6200 HD Super SloMo digital camera system and the new Grass Valley Spirit 4K Datacine, and two ?Product Awards for its Grass Valley Viper FilmStream digital cinematography camera and Grass Valley Digital Wireless Triax Camera System.
LDK 300 and LDK 500 Camera Systems Increasing in Popularity in China
With nearly 60 units sold in the first half of 2004, the Grass Valley LDK 300 camera has been a popular system in the Chinese market.
The compact LDK 300 digital camera combines high-quality 12-bit digital signal processors, an extended range of video processing capabilities, and superb sensitivity, with a rugged, lightweight design. With its dockable design, this camera can be used in a wide range of applications, from affordable studio camera uses over multicore cables to high-end robotic applications over fiber.
Numerous Chinese broadcasters have seized on the possibilities of the LDK 300, with NanJing TV (Jiangsu province) choosing four of the cameras for a new satellite newsgathering van; ShangHai TV ordering six for a new regional shopping channel; WuXi TV (Jiangsu province) placing four LDK 300 cameras in a new mobile unit, NanNing TV (Guangxi province) also building a new mobile unit with six of the cameras; and AnHui TV ordering two of the cameras for a new digital studio. Systems integrator Sanitec in Beijing ordered four LDK 300 cameras for a new mobile unit it is building for Shanxi.
Like the LDK 300, the industrys first 14-bit camera system, the Grass Valley LDK 500, has also been well received in the Chinese market with more than 30 systems sold in the first half of 2004 alone. Among recent orders were those from ChongQing TV in China, recently purchased two of the LDK 500 systems -- as well as a Grass Valley Digital Triax Wireless Camera System, which lets operators capture live pictures without cumbersome cables from up to 500 feet (150 meters) away?and get shots from positions that are not accessible for a wired camera.
