China's vice president arrives in California

China's vice president begins California leg of US visit By The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) ' Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has arrived in Los Angeles, where he will begin the California leg of his visit to promote Chinese trade with the United States.

Xi was greeted Thursday at Los Angeles International Airport by California Gov. Jerry Brown and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Xi is expected to visit the busy Port of Los Angeles, where nearly 60 percent of the imports come from China. This amounts to $120 billion worth of computers, TVs, sneakers and other goods last year.

The visit comes at a politically challenging time in U.S.-China relations, with the White House sending stern messages on currency and trade policies and Republican presidential candidates charging President Barack Obama isn't doing enough to keep America competitive with the Chinese economy.
