Child's body found Ore. creek where car swept away

Body of child recovered from Oregon creek where car swept away; ice warning issued in Wash. By The Associated Press

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) ' A Pacific Northwest storm has claimed its first life ' a child whose body was pulled from an Oregon creek where a car was swept away from a grocery store parking lot.

Fire Department spokeswoman Wanda Omdahl says the search for a missing adult continues in the creek in Albany, Ore., about 70 miles south of Portland, Ore.

She says another child and a man were rescued Wednesday night after the mishap. That child was taken to Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland.

Omdahl says Periwinkle Creek flooded from heavy rain and took the car from the parking lot of Mega Foods about 7 p.m. Wednesday.

In Washington, the National Weather Service has issued an ice storm warning for the Seattle area and the southwest interior until noon.
