Child hurt in shooting to come off life support

Lawyer for family of 1-year-old hurt in Oakland shooting says child to come off life support By The Associated Press

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) ' The lawyer for the family of a 1-year-old Oakland boy hit by gunfire during filming for a rap music video says the family has decided to take the child off life support.

Attorney Ivan Golde says Hiram Lawrence's family agreed with the decision after doctors said the boy had no brain activity. Golde says Hiram will likely be taken off life support Friday.

The decision comes after the family acknowledged that they had reached a crossroads about the boy's treatment at Children's Hospital in Oakland.

Hiram was shot in the head on Nov. 28 in a west Oakland liquor store parking lot when gunfire erupted during the filming. Six other people were injured, including the boy's father and two teens.

Police detained six persons of interest, but made no arrests.
