Cause of death unclear for Minn. shooting suspect

Autopsy finds no clear cause of death for accused courthouse shooter in northern Minnesota By The Associated Press

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) ' An autopsy on a man who died in custody while charged with opening fire in a northern Minnesota courthouse found the cause and manner of his death to be "undetermined," pending additional laboratory tests.

St. Louis County Sheriff Ross Litman tells the Duluth News Tribune ( those tests could take several weeks.

Nonetheless, Litman says foul play is not suspected in the death of 42-year-old Daniel Schlienz. Litman says the investigation is pointing toward a physiological or medical condition as the cause.

Litman says Schlienz requested medical attention on Christmas Day, but due to short staffing at the jail he was not given immediate medical care. He was treated for flu-like symptoms on Monday.

When his condition worsened, he was taken to a local hospital. He died Tuesday morning.
