Canopus Ships DV Converter

The ADVC-100 supports NTSC, PAL, S-video and composite video formats By John Virata
Canopus Corporation announced today at the DV Expo in Los Angeles that it is shipping the ADVC-100, a media converter that converts S-VHS, Hi8 or 8mm analog tapes to DV.

According to the company, the converted DV streams can then be transferred via IEEE 1394 to Macintosh and Windows-based computer systems and stored on the hard drive where they can be manipulated using popular photo or video editing applications. The ADVC-100 is an ideal, cost-effective solution for users of OHCI and DV-only capture cards that need to edit video of various formats.

The ADVC-100 features Canopus's DV codec technology, which is found in Avid's Xpress DV software and the full line of Canopus DV capture cards. On the audio front, the ADVC-100 is the first inexpensive DV converter that supports locked audio when converting from analog to digital, assuring perfect audio and video synchronization. For greater convenience, the ADVC-100 provides a 4-pin DV jack on the front panel, a 6-pin FireWire jack on back and analog input connectors on both front and back.

The ADVC-100 is available now and is priced at $299.
