Canon Ships Photo Printer

Six-color i950 offers 4,800 x 1,200 resolution By Dave Nagel
Canon has shipped its new UISB-based i950 Photo Printer. The new model offers twice the resolution of its predecessor--4,800 x 1,200 DPI--and is available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows.

The i950 Photo Printer is the successor to the S900 Photo Printer and is targeted toward digital photographers. It offers six-color printing (CcMmYK) and can print border-free on a variety of paper sizes (up to 8" x 10"). (It can print with borders on paper up to 8.5" x 14".) It includes 3,072 nozzles that output 2-picoliter droplets using Canon's MicroFine Droplet Technology. It also offers Exif Print for printing photos captured from a digital camera using Exif 2.2.

The printer includes Easy-PhotoPrint, Easy-WebPrint, PhotoRecord, PhotoStitch, ZoomBrowser and ImageBrowser software. The driver itself features a new Photo Noise Reduction function for reducing noise in blue areas of images.

Canon's i950 is available now for $249.99. It requires Mac OS 8.6 or higher, Mac OS X 10.1 or higher (Mac OS X 10.2 for border-free printing) or Windows 98/2000/ME/XP. For more information, visit
