Canon Ships 100x Zoom Lens

Digi Super 100xs targeted for SD/HD television production By Dave Nagel
Canon has shipped its first 100x zoom lens designed for broadcast applications. The new lens, tested out at the FIFA 2002 World Cup in Japan, is designed for both SD and HD television production and incorporates Canon's Image Stabilizer technology.

Canon says that, at a distance of 50 feet, the lens--the Digi Super 100xs--can capture the width of a football field at its 9.3 mm wide angle (equivalent to a 35 mm photographic camera at 38 mm). At the full telephoto zoom of 1,860 mm with built-in 2x extender (equivalent to a 35 mm photographic camera at 7,600 mm), an image of a human eye will fill the screen.
