Canon Lenses Enhance Broadcast Equipment Company InventoryRule Broadcast Systems Purchases Additional Canon HD and SD Portable Lenses (March 29, 2006)
Video production technology is constantly evolving, which is why Rule Broadcast Systems, the largest TV equipment rental and sales company in New England, specializes in providing its customers with the very latest gear. To that end, Rule recently strengthened its inventory of advanced portable EFP lenses with Canon Broadcasts High Definition HJ17ex7.7B IRSE lens, HJ11ex4.7B IRSE Wide-Angle lens, and the Standard Definition J35ex11B IASD SD telephoto lens. All three are designed to work under the most versatile of conditions, while producing vividly clear, sharp imagery.
?We live in a world?especially on the camera and equipment end of things?where technology is rolling over much faster than it used to, explained Tom Talbot, director of sales and marketing at Rule Broadcast Systems, ?We like Canon because they have always come out with models that do well for us, no matter how much electronics change. Weve been working with Canon for more than a decade, and the stability of their product line is something that weve come to rely on.
Rule Broadcast has been in the business of both renting and selling broadcast equipment for more than 20 years, and has built a reputation of offering the latest equipment to suit the many needs of their clients. ?Were happy to say that we have standardized on Canon lenses for the vast majority of our cameras that we rent, said Talbot. ?We like these Canon lenses because theyve always done well for us and we like the predictability of their performance.
Rule Broadcasts purchases of two HJ17ex7.7B IRSE HD EFP lenses and an HJ11ex4.7B IRSE Wide-Angle HD lens is designed to serve an increasing number of HD production clients. ?High Definition really appeals to our customer base, added Talbot. ?A lot of people know there is a transition going on and theyre choosing to buy HD lenses not only because they produce the pure, clean imagery, but also because HD lenses are an investment in the future. In the years to come, we expect HD to become the norm.
Canons HJ17 lens is a wide-angle HD zoom weighing only 3.83 lbs. for maximum portability and versatility in EFP (electronic field production) applications. With a focal length ranging from 7.7mm to 131mm (15.4mm to 262mm with Extender), the HJ17 lens delivers high-end HDTV performance and excellent picture sharpness. The Canon HJ11 Wide-Angle zoom, meanwhile, is one of the widest HD lenses in its class, and is intended for producers and broadcasters needing extremely wide-angle shooting with minimum chromatic aberrations and geometric distortion (at the widest angle). Featuring a focal length of from 4.7mm to 52mm (9.4mm to 104mm with Extender), the HJ11 Wide-Angle HD lens weighs just 4.3 lbs. Both Canons HJ17 and HJ11 HD lenses feature Canons advanced e-HDxs optical technologies?including Power Optics and Internal Focus?and Canons eDrive for user-definable lens control.
The eDrive features on the HJ17 and HJ11 lenses allow users to automate multiple digital functions depending on their personal preferences. With eDrive, users can easily program such functions as zoom and focus settings into a lens for precise, automated repeatability via an easy-to-use LCD menu, assignable ?soft function buttons, and the rocker switch built into the lens grip. Users can choose to program multiple settings, or none at all, depending on personal preferences and the needs of a given production assignment.
Addressing the sizable market for Standard Definition video production is Canons J35ex11B IASD telephoto lens. Its high zoom ratio of 35x makes this 9.83 lb. lens perfect for capturing exceptional imagery at long distances for such applications as documentary, natural history, aerial video, sports, and entertainment production. The J35ex lens features Canons advanced IFxs optical technologies, including Power Optics, Internal Focus, and Digital Drive features for customizing select digital functions.
In addition to these newest purchases, Rule Broadcasts inventory also includes previous models of Canon lenses. ?We still feel very comfortable that our older lenses are behaving as well as our newer lenses, affirmed Talbot. ?We pride ourselves on a certain level of aesthetic cleanliness and functionality with the products that we rent. But I am also responsible for selling off any of our used equipment. And one of the things that Ive always been happy about is that I can confidently sell a Canon lens with at least five years worth of use, and trust that it will continue to perform as well as when we first purchased it.
?Weve never been disappointed by the quality of Canon lenses, and the service and support that Canon Broadcast gives leaves us with a great level of confidence, concluded Talbot. ?Its always been a combination of the product and the people, and thats what keeps us coming back.
