Canon Debuts New ZR-Series Camcorders

ZR80, ZR85, ZR90 add new shooting modes, extended battery life By Dave Nagel
Canon has started shipping three new models in its ZR line of digital camcorders. The new ZR80, ZR85 and ZR90 add a variety of new features, including enhanced "skin detail" shooting mode and extended battery life. They're available now.

The new models in the ZR lineup all offer lower power consumption for extended battery life--up to 12 hours of continuous shooting with the optional BP-535 battery pack; a new Skin Detail Mode for recognizing and softening skin tones when shooting closeups; an End Search feature for finding the end of the last recorded scene; simultaneous photo recording; selectable focusing points; and the ability to record and transfer Motion JPEG to the camera's SD memory card (ZR85 and ZR95 only). The ZR80 offers an optical zoom of 10, 20x for the ZR85 and 22x for the ZR90. In addition, the ZR90 adds Super Night Mode and Night+ Mode for low-light shooting (in addition to the regular Night Mode found on the ZR80 and ZR85), and it offers S-video in and out via the supplied converter.

The ZR80, ZR85 and ZR90 sell for $399, $499 and $599, respectively. All three cameras are available now. For more information, visit
