Canon Debuts Elura 20MC DV Camcorder

(August 30, 2001)
Canon has introduced the Canon Elura 20MC digital camcorder, a pocket sized DV camcorder that measures approximately two inches wide by four inches high. It weighs slightly more than one pound with a battery and tape, and records video and digital photos to the universal MiniDV digital videocassette. To manage, retrieve and download digital photos more efficiently, the Elura 20MC accepts the MultiMediaCard (MMC), an industry standard storage media, or a Secure Digital (SD) Card.

Key features of the Canon Elura 20MC include:

  • Firewire computer connectivity.

  • 10x optical/40x digital zoom, image stabilization.

  • A high-resolution rotating view screen and viewfinder.

  • Digital stereo sound.

  • Advanced technology components include a progressive scan CCD image sensor, RGB primary color filter and a
    three-element stereo microphone.

  • Extended Recording Mode to deliver four hours of video
recording on one 80-minute MiniDV videotape.

The Canon Elura 10, a comparable new model without the MultiMediaCard or Secure Digital Card, includes the performance features found in the Canon Elura 20MC. The suggested retail price for the Canon Elura 20MC is $1,499, and it will be available at authorized Canon retailers in October 2001. The Canon Elura 10 will be available at about the same time for $1,299.
