Canon Announces CanoScan LiDE 80 ScannerBus-powered scanner includes film adapter
The new LiDE 80 offers a resolution of 2,400 x 4,800 DPI and integrates lens elements directly on the scanning sensor to reduce the size and weight of the scanner. It offers 48-bit color depth and single-pass scanning with support for more than 281 trillion colors. (Canon hasn't said what the maximum document size is for the new model, but all other CanoScan LiDE scanners support documents up to 8.5" x 11.7".) The included film adapter supports 35 mm positive or negative unmounted frames at up to 2,400 x 4,800 as well. And it offers built-in automatic retouching and enhancement technology (FARE Level 2) for dust and scratch removal and grain and fade correction. FARE Level-2 helps to deliver better scans from damaged originals and restore color balance to faded images. It also increases support for Kodachrome film.
The model includes one USB 2.0 connector (with cable), four automated scanning buttons and a Z-Lid expansion top for scanning thick sources. For software, the scanner comes bundled with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 (Windows and Mac); ArcSoft PhotoStudio and PhotoBase (Windows and Mac); ScanSoft OmniPage SE OCR and ScanGear CS (Windows and Mac); CanoScan Toolbox (Windows and Mac); and NewSoft Presto! PageManager (Windows).
The CanoScan LiDE 80 is expected to be available in August for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows for $179.99. For more information, visit http://www.usa.canon.com.
