Canford announced the launch of over 800 new products via the internet at the Sound Broadcast Equipment Show in the UK with more to come. The new additions are available either online at or via their telephone sales lines. All pricing, full technical details and application notes are initially to be found online.

Canford’s already wide range, encompassing over 12,000 lines, has just grown by more than 800 items. Canford took the decision to launch the new products through their website immediately in advance of the imminent publication of their catalogue due early in 2006.The 2006 edition marks Canford’s 30th anniversary and will contain these 800 products and many more. The new printed version of The Source™ is to be the first that is printed in colour throughout.

Canford signalled its commitment to a fully interactive online store some years ago and has been steadily developing the site over the last 5 years. The size of Canford’s portfolio alone made this a mammoth task. However, anyone familiar with the Canford catalogue, should feel at ease with the website and will additionally have access to the growing database of product information, technical specifications and product manuals.

The 800 products introduced on the internet cover almost all the 22 product sections within the catalogue. Several of these new products designed and manufactured in-house, were prominent on the Canford stand, including a range of rack-mounted AES/EBU impedance converters, MDU’s, and CAT5, CAT6, Firewire and USB panel ranges.

The Rack-mount Impedance Converters are AES/EBU 110ohm to 75ohm ‘coax’ converter units based on Canford’s popular individual in-line modules.

The units, featuring individual isolated audio circuits, are mounted in a screened, metal 1U case with detachable rack-mounting ‘L’ brackets. These can be fitted at either the BNC or XLR end making balanced or unbalanced connection available at the front (or rear) of the rack. Brackets may be fitted so the unit mounts flush, or recessed by 30mm. Alternatively, the brackets can be fitted at right-angles to the box allowing vertical mounting (either way up) at a recess depth of approximately 20mm, 50mm or 80mm. The vertical mounting option allows space within a rack behind patch panels or other equipment to be utilised saving valuable front of rack area. Units are finished in black, printed with channel identification numbers and fitted with snap-on cover designation strips.

The CAT5E panels are a patching range that come supplied fully populated with feedthrough (also known as double-sided or back-to-back) RJ45 CAT5E sockets enabling system patching and easy connection of portable or external equipment. The panels can be specified as screened and unscreened versions.

The CAT6 panels are similar in construction to the CAT5E screened types but meet the higher specifications of CAT6.

The Firewire panels are intended for a similar role but come populated with feedthrough FireWire / IEEE1394a sockets, whilst as you might expect the USB panels come fully populated with USB sockets. All panels are of a ‘broadcast’ style and include snap on designation strips and lacing bars.

Other products just introduced include a Marantz Flash/Microdrive recorder, BCD AD and DA converters and audio range extenders. Mixers were also added to the expanding girth of the catalogue in the form of the latest offerings from Inter-M and TOA and an RDL Rack-Up mixer module. A large number of loudspeakers were added including ceiling, horn and various types of installation versions not to mention the highly regarded PMC active monitors.

A new intercom system from Sonifex and the latest additions to their Redbox range feature too. Not at all surprising as Canford has just been announced as the Sonifex Dealer of The Year for 2005. The 4th time they have received this award since its inception in 1999.

BCD test and measurement products are also new in the form of a digital audio test generator and a digital audio signal analyser alongside the latest NTI Acoustilyzer and the handy Pen Pal a marker pen sized HD and AES video test generator from EV.

Iain Elliott, Canford’s founder was at pains to point out that the paper catalogue would continue alongside their internet offering. “We are very excited about how quickly we are able to bring new products to our customers through the internet. Naturally we will be developing our site and trying to offer the best possible service through this medium just as we do with our telephone sales. But; I want to make it clear that we will always produce our catalogue in a hard copy as well. We have asked our customers and whilst they love being able to buy online at any time they choose, and being able to download a complete catalogue from our site in Pdf form, there is something almost comforting about being able to hold a real catalogue in their hands. In fact, it is very true to say we are investing more today in our paper catalogue then ever before since we are about to produce our first 100% colour version of ‘The Source’.
