Cambridge Announces Animo 5.0

2D animation system adds effects, enhanced scanner support By Dave Nagel
Cambridge Animation Systems has announced Animo 5.0, an update to the company's flagship 2D animation system. The software is expected to ship this summer for Mac OS X and Windows.

Animo 5.0 will add a number of new features in the areas of workflow, effects and input. In the area of workflow, these include support for meta information about Animo files; a new configuration application for setting up output devices and other parameters; automatic identification of batch servers; and support for JPEG, PNG and RLE-compressed TGA file output.

Animo 5.0 also includes new effects, such as turbulence (for cloud-like effects) and random noise. It also offers new screen, divide and overlay blending modes. Other new features include:

  • SANE drivers for extended support of scanners in Mac OS X;
  • 1-bit scanning;
  • Support for Lightfoot round-hole pegbar;
  • Updated controls in ImageProcessor and InkPaint modules;
  • Ability to save drawings as Adobe Illustrator files;
  • Optional batch rendering.
