Cache County Utah Delivers Secure Wireless for Public and Private AccessXirrus Selected for Expertise in Providing Maximum Coverage, Reduced Infrastructure Cost, and Comprehensive Security (March 20, 2012)
THOUSAND OAKS, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/20/12 -- Xirrus®, the leader in high-performance wireless networks, announced today that Cache County Utah has deployed Xirrus Wireless Arrays throughout its government offices and fairgrounds. County officials selected Xirrus Wireless Arrays over competing offerings, citing Xirrus' ability to meet coverage and capacity requirements while requiring less wireless-infrastructure build-out, thereby preserving county resources in time and management costs.
Security was also a key to the county's selection of Xirrus. Citing security as a major concern, amplified by the growing use of personal wireless devices for county work, officials said that Xirrus prevailed by providing tools for comprehensive security, as well as system controls to manage data access and security on mobile devices.
"We reviewed other leading providers of wireless, but determined that their solutions required a substantially larger number of access points to achieve the coverage we needed," said Randall Crowther, system administrator for Cache County. "Xirrus was the only provider to complete a comprehensive site survey, which showed us exactly how many access points we would need and the best locations in which to deploy them. In the end, Xirrus was the provider able to deliver maximum coverage with minimal equipment. And Xirrus was able to meet our demands for network security."
Once chosen, Xirrus deployed and tested its XN4 Wireless Arrays in the Cache County Sheriff's office, two administration buildings, and the local fairgrounds -- with all sites going fully operational in less than a week and with additional follow-up visits to fine-tune configuration. In addition to meeting all coverage requirements, the Xirrus Arrays enable outside vendors to use Wi-Fi to complete point-of-sale credit card transactions during festivals and events. Xirrus also tackled security requirements by segmenting the network for public and private access, increasing operational security by allowing the government staff to operate on the private network.
"We are very happy with the Xirrus solution," said Crowther. "Not only did Xirrus provide Cache County with the wireless access we needed, but they've already returned to complete an additional site survey, ensuring comprehensive wireless coverage in all critical areas. Our employees are thrilled to have access to a dependable, secure Wi-Fi network."
