Cablevision Launches Highly Personalized, Interactive Optimum WiFi Channel on iO TV(August 17, 2011)

Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC) today announced the launch of a personalized and highly-interactive channel on iO TV that delivers a wealth of information to customers on how to find and use Optimum WiFi. Located on iO TV channel 910, the Optimum WiFi Channel displays localized and expandable maps showing indoor and outdoor Optimum WiFi access points where wireless Internet access is available, customer-specific Optimum ID information and a variety of tutorials on how to establish a new Optimum ID and how to use Optimum WiFi on specific electronic devices.
Much more than a generic promotional effort, the Optimum WiFi Channel is a highly personal and interactive resource that provides our customers indoor and outdoor Optimum WiFi locations near where they live and work, the specific Optimum IDs associated with their home or business, and extensive information on how to use Optimum WiFi to connect to the Internet with their device, said Kevin Curran, Cablevisions senior vice president of wireless product management. Optimum WiFi is a unique and valuable benefit for Optimum Online high-speed Internet customers, and we hope this new source of information will raise awareness and give our customers the tools they need to get online when away from their wired connections.
Available to all Optimum Online high-speed Internet customers at no extra charge, Optimum WiFi delivers wireless Internet access at speeds of up to 15 megabits-per-second (Mbps) downstream and 4 Mbps upstream across tens of tens of thousands of outdoor access points and more than 7,000 indoor locations across Cablevisions service area. Optimum WiFi is dramatically faster than expensive cellular data service on 3G and 4G networks, and more than three times as fast as the countrys average wired residential broadband service.
The Optimum WiFi Channel includes:
· Detailed coverage maps, automatically set to a customers location, with the ability to expand to show access points across the region.
· Specific information on the current Optimum IDs in use in the home or business, as well as detailed instructions on how to establish a new one.
· Video tutorials providing information on a range of useful topics including an overview of the service, how to authenticate devices to automatically sign-in to Optimum WiFi, how to manage Optimum IDs, quick tips and specific instructions for Android, BlackBerry and Apple mobile devices, as well as PC and Mac.
Customers can also access the Optimum WiFi channel directly from thirty-second Optimum WiFi commercials that are currently running on television. When a banner appears that the bottom of the screen, customers will be prompted to hit select for more information and will be immediately tuned to channel 910.
More than 500,000 Optimum Online high-speed Internet customers have already accessed the Internet when away from their home or small business connections over Optimum WiFi. Cablevision has also expanded the reach of its own WiFi network by interconnecting with WiFi deployments by other cable providers Comcast and Time Warner Cable, so customers of all three companies can roam freely across these three distinct WiFi networks and enjoy a superior mobile data experience.
