CMS Releases FireWire Backup System

ABSplus now available in 60 GB capacity By Dave Nagel
CMS has released a new version of its ABSplus product. In case you're wondering, no, it's not a revolutionary new as-seen-on-TV abdominal exerciser. It's a portable, FireWire-based automatic backup system that's now available in capacities up to 60 GB.

ABSplus systems are available in portable or desktop configurations. The systems were introduced just a couple months ago at the Macworld 2002 convention in San Francisco. The portable version is a small device that can withstand shocks up to 800 G (non-operating), and it can operate in temperatures from 41 degrees F to 131 degrees F. Both versions can also be used as additional drives for storage.

The ABSplus is available for Macintosh OS 9 and OS X and includes USB and FireWire connections. The 60 GB version sells for $799. Smaller-capacity portable versions are available starting at $279 (10 GB). Desktop models start at $349 for the entry-level 20 GB version and go up to 120 GB. For more information, visit
