CMS Automatic Backup Wins Best of Show at Macworld

CMS Peripherals announced their new line of portable Automatic Backup System Plus (ABSplus) products for Macintosh users was named Best of Show at Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco last week.

Jim Dalrymple, news director of MacCentral.com, Macworld's news site, and Kristina DeNike, lab director of Macworld, presented the awards on Jan. 10, 2002. The "Macworld Best of Show Awards" represent a highly coveted honor within the Macintosh industry and were presented to the most exciting hardware and software products featured at the four-day Macworld exhibit.


"Exhibiting at their first Macworld Expo, CMS Peripherals demonstrated an Automatic Backup System that should take the fear out of backups for the novice user, while allowing some customization for the advanced user," said Dalrymple. "Built for Mac OS X, CMS has shown an understanding for what the Mac community needs in an easy to use backup system."

Providing hands-free backup and external storage in capacities ranging from 10GB to 40GB for mobile users (with 60GB shipping February) and 20GB to 100GB (with 120GB shipping February), the Mac ABS offers FireWire connectivity for up to 408 Mbits/sec. data transfer and supports OS 8.6, 9.x and X.

The ABS is designed to be quickly and easily integrated into the storage routines of Mac iBook, PowerBook, iMac and Power Mac users while providing the additional security of a total system backup and pain-free method of data recovery.

The new line of ABS products offers Mac users instant backup, recovery, external file storage or instant file sharing capability whenever and wherever necessary.

"This new line of ABS with FireWire and OS X support was our debut into the Mac backup and storage industry," said Ken Burke, president of CMS Peripherals.

Using the ABS is as easy as plugging in the included FireWire cable. For fast retrieval, both the notebook and desktop FireWire ABS solutions can be accessed as an additional drive volume by the host computer. The high-speed data transfer capability of the FireWire interface provides enough throughput for streaming audio and video files.

Availability
The entire line of Mac ABS products support flexible data interchange, backup, archival and migration of data. The notebook ABS with an interface choice of FireWire or USB 2.0 is now shipping with a three-year warranty in capacities of 10GB, 20GB, 30GB, and 40GB, with 60GB available the end of February 2002.

Pricing starts at $279. The Desktop ABS with an interface choice of FireWire or USB 2.0 is available now in capacities of 20GB, 40GB 60GB 80GB and 100GB capacities (120GB shipping the end of February) with a three-year warranty. Estimated street prices range from $349 for 20GB, to $649 for the 100GB. Both notebook and desktop products are compatible with Mac OS 8.6, 9.x and X.
