CBS Chooses Accom HD/SD Production ServerPurchases a ProServ MX.8 HD/SD video production server with EasyClip (May 18, 2005)
Accom a leader in broadcast and professional video products, recently announced at the National Association of Broadcasters convention, that CBS has purchased a ProServ MX.8 HD/SD video production server with EasyClip. The system is configured with four symmetrical HD video channels and eight tracks of uncompressed audio per video channel, and a total of 54 hours of HD storage. CBS will be using the ProServ MX.8 in a production control room that is being entirely renovated and converted to HD.
ProServ MX.8 is the industry's most versatile video server for high definition and standard definition production on the market today. Providing an unmatched combination of power, flexibility and value for fast-paced production environments, ProServ MX.8 will be used to serve high definition stills and clips for CBS productions.
As part of the purchase, CBS included the new Accom EasyClip software, a Windows-based graphical user interface that can run on a networked PC to add powerful features and extended operational flexibility to the ProServ MX.8. EasyClip operates on clips even while they're still being recorded. Using EasyClip's drag and drop interface, or by importing a pre-built list, EasyClip can construct complex multi-channel clip lists in seconds for playout on the ProServ MX.8.
ProServ MX.8 interfaces easily into any studio environment by providing an outstanding range of control options. A powerful content management system (CMP) is included with the ProServ MX.8. This feature provides clip library management functions such as searching, browsing and metadata management to name a few. Accoms intuitive hardware control panels offer the reassurance of instant response from a physical control surface familiar to anyone who has operated a VTR. The control panel and ProServs onscreen menus provide comprehensive control over server operations and setup parameters without the need for a PC. ProServ also ships with a full API, allowing studios to easily adapt it into customized control environments.
Housed in a compact 4RU chassis, the ProServ MX.8 provides multi-channel HD and SD server functionality for less than the cost of a single studio HD VTR. Suited to applications such as multi-camera productions, streamlined post-production editing, graphics production, and mobile operations, ProServ MX.8 is ideal for a fast-paced production environment.
The ProServ MX.8 will assist CBS in raising the level of graphical content within live telecasts, making heavy use of Video+Audio+Key clips. With the instant access to recorded material for production, CBS's operators will also be able to design a faster, more flexible workflow, integrating the ProServ MX.8 into an increasingly pivotal role.
"We are introducing a high-quality, cost-effective way for broadcasters like CBS, to take the HD transition in their stride without making compromises to the way they work," said Greg Smith Broadcast Products Marketing Manager for Accom.
In addition to ProServ MX.8, CBS's new HD control room is also equipped with a dual-twin Dveous/MX as their digital video effects system of choice.
