CATC Announces FireInspector 2.0 IEEE 1394 Analyzer

Support of Key PC Peripheral and Consumer Electronics Protocols and Open API Creates Universal IEEE 1394 Analyzer (December 06, 2001)
Computer Access Technology Corp. today announced version 2.0 of its FireInspector IEEE 1394 Bus & Protocol Analyzer, a non-intrusive development tool for capturing, displaying and analyzing IEEE 1394 bus traffic.

With this release, CATC supports SBP-3, the emerging protocol used by high-speed PC peripherals developers. In addition, version 2.0 adds support for ISO 61883 CIP header processing (including DV and MPEG-2), which is essential for consumer electronics equipment developers. Now these design teams can take advantage of CATC's Trace graphical user interface to speed development of IEEE 1394-based products. With CATC Trace, recorded data is displayed as color-coded packets that can be searched for specific data, errors or other desired conditions.


With this release, CATC also adds File-Based Decoding, an open API that allows users to design and debug virtually any proprietary or "vendor unique" 1394 protocol. These custom decodes can be saved and shared within a development team to provide a consistent view at the transaction level using the powerful CATC Trace display. These enhancements add to FireInspector's previous capabilities for decoding IPv4, AV/C, DCP, and HAVi protocol transactions, making FireInspector a universal solution for standard as well as proprietary IEEE 1394 protocols.

FireInspector 2.0 also adds ease-of-use features, including improved search algorithms that allow large quantities of bus traffic to be searched at the transaction level for faster, more efficient debugging. In addition, a traffic generation window has been added, which makes it easy to construct, send and receive 1394 isochronous, asynchronous and PHY packets to test functionality, compatibility and error recovery. This release also supports test procedure automation; a scripting framework that allows unattended operation of the analyzer.

Pricing and Availability
The new CATC FireInspector 2.0 is currently available directly from CATC or from any of its distributors. Existing FireInspector users with current customer maintenance agreements will receive the software release free of charge. New users may purchase complete FireInspector 2.0 systems for $15,950.00 each, which includes decode support for SBP, ISO 61883, IPv4, AV/C, and DCP protocols.
