CA Square Adds New Dimension to the Packaging for Poland's Largest Music Festival(September 18, 2006)
New York-based design and animation company, CA Square (www.ca-square.com,) brings a new dimension to the 2006 packaging for Eastern Europes largest and best-known music festival, Sopot. This marks the second year that the studio has been tapped to design and produce the broadcast package for Polands largest privately held network, TVN. This year the festival was held during the first week of September.
Evolving the elegant design solution that the studio created for the 2005 festival, two-dimensional flat-shaded imagery gives way to dynamic three-dimensional visuals that retain a similar feeling while bringing a new flair to the package.
?In evolving and updating the look of the package we based our designs on a single theme, explained CA Square art director and lead designer, Alejandro Melguizo. ?That theme was ?experience. The visuals are all about experiencing Sopot from the festival goers perspective. For example, in the opening sequence we glide from the forest lined hills outside the city down into the center of Sopot, through the city, coming to rest in front of the sparkling gulf waters. Its exactly what visitors experience when they take a trip there, so we were really able to connect with the audience on a personal level.
CA Squares global sensibility is once again evidenced as the package maintains its distinctly European flavor while striking a delicate balance between 2D and 3D visuals. A suite of bumpers, backgrounds, lower thirds, mortises, and transitional elements were created in addition to three twelve-second opening sequences.
?When you boil it down, CA Square designs experiences, explains Carlos Ferreyros, strategy and creative director. ?Our solutions go beyond eye candy. They have to. Our clients are looking to build on the relationship they have with their viewers. They want to create a lasting impression, so its our job to craft a package that works on a variety of levels. The visuals are a substantial part of this, but the feeling a viewer gets when they experience the piece, the sound design, and music all come into play as well.
To complement the visuals CA Square brought in New York music house, Edison Music, whom they have collaborated with in the past. Edison developed new variations of the signature music and sound design for the package. Once again, sounds and voices of summer intermingle with strings and percussion as the imagery plays out.
CA Square is currently working on two other international projects, both comprehensive brand and identity packages for channels geared towards kids.
