Busy Summer Keeps Crescendo! Studios & Resonante Sizzling

An Emmy Nomination and a host of projects keep studios hopping (September 17, 2004)

Dave Baker of Crescendo! Studios and Resonante Music & Sound Design attended the Creative Arts Awards presentation of the Emmy awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles September 12th. Baker accompanied attendees from Goodby Silverstein & Partners/San Francisco to the award ceremony where the 30-second Saturn TV spot "Door Music" was nominated for a Best Commercial Emmy. Baker was the composer and mixer on the spot.

San Francisco audio post house Crescendo! Studios launched Resonante this August on the heels of Baker's work for "Door Music." Since Resonante's inception, Baker has provided sound design for the California Milk TV spot, "Russian Family" through Goodby Silverstein & Partners/SF and the Electronic Arts Nascar TV spot "Directions," through See Advertising/SF. Baker also mixed the California Milk spot and shared mix duties with Crescendo!'s Craig Helmholz on EA Nascar.

Freelance producer Rita Ribera worked with Baker to record the announcer track and mix three television spots for Washington Hospital. The 30-second spots titled, "This is My Hospital," "Accidents Will Happen," and "Babies" were for Whitty, Hannell and Partners/ San Francisco. Umlaut Films was the editorial company.

Baker also recorded the announcer track and mixed two new Saturn television spots, "No Catch" and "Questions." The spots were produced by Michael Damiani and executive producer David Yost of Goodby Silverstein & Partners/SF.

Baker edited and mixed new Budweiser Lizard radio spots titled "Tattoo," "Brewmaster," "Improv," "Owning Fresh," "More Taste," and "Legal Type".

Blink Digital in New York selected Crescendo! and engineer Craig Helmholz to record the commentary of SF-based filmmakers John Shank and Megan Mylan for the DVD release of their documentary "The Lost Boys of Sudan." The film observes the experiences and impressions of two boys from Sudan who were brought to the United States as part of a resettlement program that took place in 2001.

McCann Erickson/San Francisco executive producer Matthew Winks selected Craig Helmholz to mix new promotional spots for local NBC affiliate television station NBC-11. The 30-second TV spots were "Wake Up," "Hope," and "Deeper." Umlaut Films was the editorial company.

Helmholz completed sound design and mix for two television spots for premium movie channel service, Starz. TBWA/Chiat Day/SF was the agency, with Andrea Bustabade producing the spots "Mom" and "Jerry."

Craig Helmholz recorded and mixed two Saturn radio spots with Goodby Silverstein & Partners/SF executive producer David Yost. ISDN voice-over recording sessions connected Crescendo! with Los Angeles and New York for the 60-second spots "No Catch" and "Questions." Helmholz worked with producer Raul Avila on two new Hispanic radio spots, also for Saturn. Voice-over was recorded with three people in Crescendo!'s booth and the announcer via ISDN from Santa Monica. The 60-second spots are titled "Teenager" and "Bilingual."

Helmholz recorded and mixed Hispanic radio and television spots for Pine-Sol through advertising agency Dieste Harmel & Partners/Dallas and editorial company Red Car/Dallas. The announcer track was recorded via ISDN with Pianica Studios in Mexico City for the 30-second TV spot "Socks" and the 60-second radio spot "Marbles," produced by Dieste's Laura Handrade (TV) and Sharon Lopez (radio.)

Helmholz continued work with San Francisco advertising agency Johnson, Cogert & Strauss on the San Francisco Giants television campaign, "The Place to Be." Agency creative Marc Johnson worked with Helmholz to sweeten and mix five new television spots. The production company was Valiant Films/San Francisco.

TBWA/Chiat Day Los Angeles called upon Crescendo! Studios to record actors Kevin Miller, Chris Murphy and Matt Olson for an upcoming animated Sony Playstation television spot. Engineer Craig Helmholz manned the ISDN and in-house recording sessions, connecting with audio house Clatter & Din in Seattle.

Jay Shilliday recorded voice-over and mixed a 30-second television spot, "Appraiser/Mortgage" for Alias Advertising and E*Trade. David Verhoef produced the spot. Shilliday provided sound sweetening and mixing for a five-minute corporate video for Foundry. The production company was Tam Communications of Scotts Valley, California.
