Bundling Up at Winter NAMMMini-studio packages with hardware and software eliminate configuration hassles
Its time to bundle up. New self-contained mini-studio bundles from Cakewalk, Mackie, M-Audio, PreSonus and others on display at the NAMM convention eliminate configuration hassles while offering matched recording hardware and software. In addition, companies such as Digidesign that already had bundled solutions on the market offered new options for them.
Cakewalks SONAR Power Studio 250 and SONAR Power Studio 660 integrated music systems packages both include the full SONAR 5 Studio Edition DAW application. SONAR Power Studio 660 includes the new Cakewalk SPS-66 24-bit/192 kHz FireWire audio/MIDI interface, while the SONAR Power Studio 250 includes the Cakewalk SPS-25 24-bit/96 kHz USB audio/MIDI interface. Estimated street prices are $599 U.S. for the Power Studio 660 and $449 U.S. for the Power Studio 250.
SONAR Power Studio includes a special configuration of SONAR Studio Edition where all audio and MIDI device settings come pre-configured for the included Cakewalk hardware, so all the user has to do is enable a track and click ?record.

Mackie previewed an innovative dockable hardware interface that will be bundled with its Tracktion 2 DAW software. Called the Satellite FireWire Recording System, it includes a ?pod that can be removed from the base for portable use, powered by the FireWire bus. The Satellite includes two of Mackie's Onyx preamps, as well as 24-bit/96kHz A/D and D/A converters. When plugged into the base station, it can take advantage of AC power, additional I/O, talkback and monitor switching functions. It will be available in the second quarter of 2006. Pricing was not available.
