Brown University Center for Statistical Sciences Moves Critical Customized SharePoint 2007 Content Into SharePoint 2010 With Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint

Metalogix Provides Ivy League Institution With Level Upgrade Path to Cost Efficiently Migrate Custom Workflows and Team Sites to SharePoint 2010 (April 26, 2012)

WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 04/26/12 -- Metalogix Software, the trusted provider of content lifecycle management solutions for Microsoft® SharePoint®, Exchange® and Cloud platforms, today announced that Brown University Center for Statistical Sciences implemented Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint to successfully move critical customized SharePoint 2007 content into SharePoint 2010. The university benefitted from the ability of Migration Manager for SharePoint to migrate customized workflows and teams sites and is now fully deployed on SharePoint 2010.

Located in Providence, R.I. and founded in 1764, Brown University is the seventh-oldest college in the United States. The Brown University Center for Statistical Sciences is focused on fostering research and statistical education at the Division of Biology and Medicine and the University at large. The center's faculty and staff conduct methodologic research in Biostatistics and interdisciplinary research in a broad range of areas of Medicine, Public Health, and Biology as part of the Public Health Program at Brown.

The Brown University Center for Statistical Sciences had initially deployed a 32-bit SharePoint 2007 that had gained traction within the institution, so the decision was made to upgrade to a 64-bit SharePoint 2010. While the center's IT staff migrated most of its content into SharePoint 2010, there was still roughly 150MB of data -- custom workflows and team sites -- that were essentially stuck in SharePoint 2007.

"We were establishing a new SharePoint 2010 Enterprise project, but we were unable to find a way to manually migrate our custom workflows and team sites into SharePoint 2010," said Chris Kemp, programmer/analyst, Brown University Center for Statistical Sciences.

In an attempt to solve the issue, The Brown University Center for Statistical Sciences investigated other third-party migration vendors but found that only Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint could migrate the customized content necessary to complete the project. Kemp discovered that the Metalogix solution worked on the very first attempt after installing the free trial version.

"After the trial download, I immediately found that Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint was easy to use," explained Kemp. "With its user interface, I could copy and paste the content I needed to migrate and it was very simple and intuitive. Just from the trial, I realized this was a solution I could implement quickly."

Because of the complicated nature of the migration, Kemp still needed assistance from Metalogix support to move all of the content, particularly "Fabulous 40" template team sites. The issues were addressed promptly by the Metalogix support team and Kemp described Metalogix staff as "excellent and thorough."

The Brown University Center for Statistical Sciences was able to migrate the entire 147MB of custom SharePoint 2007 data, including custom workflows, web parts and team sites, into its new 2GB, 64-bit SharePoint 2010 deployment. Most of the content was migrated within one day and the full migration took only three days. "It was the perfect solution for what we were looking for," said Kemp.

"For organizations and educational institutions looking to migrate customized content, like The Brown University Center for Statistical Sciences, Metalogix Migration Manager for SharePoint provides a powerful suite of capabilities to allow them to quickly and efficiently take advantage of SharePoint 2010," said Steven Murphy, CEO, Metalogix. "The solution's award-winning, intuitive user interface and the SharePoint-certified level of support from Metalogix staff gave the center the ability to move custom workflows, web parts and team sites into its new SharePoint 2010 environment, which other vendors could not provide."
