Brief: Western Digital Ships 120 GB FireWire Drive

New model sports 7,200 RPM mechanism By Dave Nagel
Western Digital today introduced its new 120 GB FireWire hard drive, an external model that sports a 7,200 RPM mechanism and a 1394/IDE bridge using the Oxford 911 chipset. The new model is available now.

The new drive is designed to be stackable and, like all FireWire drives, can be chained together with additional drives for increased capacity. The hard drives are compatible with any computer with a built-in FireWire port. For computers without FireWire ports, Western Digital offers a PCI Adapter for desktops and a CardBus PC Card for notebooks.

Wide availability of the new drive is expected a little later this month. The price is $349. For more information, visit http://www.westerndigital.com.
