Boris FX 7.0 Ships

Visual effects tool gets OpenGL hardware acceleration, new filters By Dave Nagel
Boris FX today announced Boris FX 7, an update to the company's visual effects tool for compositors and non-linear editors. The latest release includes several new features and enhancements, such as OpenGL hardware acceleration, new effects and performance boosts. It's available now for Mac OS X and Windows.

Boris FX includes features like animated apply modes, particles, motion blur, lighting effects, displacement maps, unlimited video layers and self-animating natural effects, such as snow, rain, fire and clouds. New features in version 7.0 include:

  • OpenGL hardware acceleration;
  • Improved render speeds;
  • A variety of new filters, including blurs, Film Grain and Light Zoom;
  • Vector paint tools;
  • Vector spline editing;
  • Spline-based primitives;
  • Animated gradients;
  • A standalone Keyframer utility with preview to monitor functionality.

Boris FX 7.0 supports a wide range of hosts on Mac OS X and WIndows, including Adobe After Effects and Premiere; various Avid systems; Apple Final Cut Pro; Media 100 and others. Upgrades for the current version run $199. The full version runs $595. For more information, visit
