Boehner: House GOP still wants full year tax cut

Boehner says House GOP still wants 1-year tax cut, but other Republican floats shorter option By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) ' Speaker John Boehner says House Republicans are still insisting on a one-year extension of an expiring payroll tax cut, even though one of his lieutenants has floated a shorter deal.

Under pressure to renew the tax cut before it expires Dec. 31, Boehner did not rule out or endorse the three-month extension floated earlier in the day by Michigan Rep. Dave Camp. He pointed out, however, that businesses must report to the government every quarter, or three months. Camp said on CNBC that extending the cut for a quarter would help businesses.

It was the latest volley in a tense standoff that has split House Republicans, who are demanding a yearlong extension, from their Senate counterparts, 39 of whom helped pass a two-month extension last week before leaving on vacation.
