Blur Studios RockFish Honored at Intl Film FestivalsStudio to Release Two New CG Shorts this Fall
RockFish, Blur Studios computer-generated short film about a worker on a distant planet, is currently enjoying a highly successful run on the international film festival circuit. Written and directed by Tim Miller, the comic-book influenced adventure has been accepted into more than two dozens top festivals worldwide and won four awards for outstanding animation.
Currently, RockFish is a finalist for Best Animation at the Imagina Awards to be held in February in Monte Carlo. It is also a finalist for Best Animated Short at next months Raindance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the United Kingdom. Other upcoming screenings include ArtFutura which will occur in eight cities in Spain next month.
Earlier this month, RockFish screened at the Manhattan Short Film Festival, where it was one of 12 films selected for public screening on giant screens in New Yorks Union Square Park. The film also recently screened at the 58th Edinburgh International Film Festival in Scotland, Festival Arcipelago in Rome and the Boston International Film Festival.
RockFish won for Best Animation at the Malibu Film Festival. It won a similar award at Dragon*Con Independent Short Festival held recently in Atlanta. It was one of that festivals two top awards. In the Action/Cut Short Film Competition, RockFish earned the prize for Best Animation Short Film. It also won for Best Animation at this months Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival in Florida. Earlier this year, RockFish was short-listed for Academy Award consideration.
RockFish is Blur Studios second original animated short. Aunt Luisa, released in 2002, was also short-listed for Academy Award consideration and screened at numerous film festivals worldwide. The company embarked upon a program of producing computer animated short films as a precursor to the production of feature-length CG features.
Blur Studio is nearing completion of two more short films. Both will be ready in time for submission for Academy Award consideration in November. The films will build on the successes of Aunt Luisa and RockFish by showcasing the companys depth of creative talent and stylistic versatility. Both films are comedies and represent animation styles sharply different from each other and from Blurs earlier shorts.
