NEW YORK (AP) ' A blind Chinese activist who was the focus of a nearly monthlong diplomatic standoff is scheduled to speak this week in New York City.
Chen Guangcheng (chehn gwahng-chung) will speak Thursday at the Council on Foreign Relations in Manhattan.
His mentor, New York University law professor Jerome Cohen, also will participate in the event. Chen is now a fellow at NYU's law school.
Cohen advised Chen while he was in the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Chen was given sanctuary there after his daring escape following seven years of prison and house arrest.
The professor has said Chen was "seriously troubled" about three people at the mercy of Chinese authorities for helping him. One of them is Chen's nephew.
