Blackmagic Enhances DeckLink HD Capabilities

Software update offers real-time HD downconversion By Dave Nagel
Blackmagic Design has released a new version of its DeckLink software for its line of uncompressed video capture cards. According to the company, the new 4.2 beta adds enhancements for working with HD footage, including real-time HD downconversion. The new version is available for download now for Mac OS X.

The latest DeckLink software includes real-time downconversion and also offers, for the first time, real-time effects on full-resolution HD footage for the company's high-definition capture board. RT effects include 3-Way Color Correction and image control effects with full keyframing support, according to Blackmagic. The DeckLink HD is a QuickTime-based capture card for Mac OS X that supports standard definition SDI video, as well as full HDTV video formats. It can be switched on the fly between SD SMPTE-259M SDI video and HD SMPTE-292M SDI video for 1080i, 1080p and 720p video editing and design. It offers HD-SDI and SD-SDI video and audio I/O, as well as a Sony-compatible RS422 serial deck control port and a second independent HD/SD-SDI and S/PDIF outputs for video and audio monitoring. The card operates in 10-bit uncompressed and 8-bit compressed video formats and includes the Blackmagic codec, which supports 64-bit rendering in applications like Adobe After Effects. It also offers full PCI-X 133/100 speeds. It sells for $1,995.

Blackmagic also says that all of its DeckLink cards are compatible with the new HD downconverter and now have the ability to play HD out to NTSC or PAL SD in real time. Full details are available on the company's Web site.
