BigHand Leads the Way According to Latest ILTA Technology Survey

  (January 27, 2012)

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) January 27, 2012

BigHand, the leader in voice productivity and workflow digital dictation technology in the legal marketplace, was recently shown to be the market leader in the provision of workflow digital dictation software, according to members responses in ILTAs 2011 Technology Survey. The survey revealed that BigHand has increased its market share by 33% in the last year and is used by twice as many firms, when compared with the other leading vendors cited in the survey. BigHand also grew its market share by the largest margin, in relation to all other dictation systems listed (both software and hardware providers).

The survey results also highlighted the trend that firms are abandoning analogue tape dictation systems faster than ever (the use of tape dictation devices decreased by 7% in 12 months), with BigHand being the main beneficiary. Beth Thompson, Director of Sales at BigHand Inc., commented, BigHand has been the driving force behind many of the innovations that have been seen in the enterprise digital dictation market. We have led the way with many technical firsts, especially in the development of Smartphone applications and advancements in speech-to-text integration. This momentum has established BigHand as the market leader in the North American legal market.

There was a marginal increase in firms that do not have a system, raising the perennial question of whether the number of lawyers dictating is actually declining. Allison Stegich, Marketing Manager at BigHand Inc., explained why BigHand does not believe this is the case, As firms look to invest in technology that delivers on productivity initiatives, lawyers are finding new ways to use BigHand to be more efficient. This is especially true of our Smartphone applications, with end user adoption doubling in just 12 months, and lawyers starting to delegate task-based work to support staff verbally rather than by email (e.g. their time or CRM information). For many, BigHand is no longer being regarded as just a digital dictation solution, but more of a voice productivity technology that offers lawyers a variety of ways they can use their voice to get more done. BigHands voice productivity technology has been embraced by thousands of lawyers around the world, all utilizing it in their own way.

The question of voice-to-text technology usage was included for the first time, with 57% of firms who responded not using any voice-to-text system, suggesting that adoption of the technology is still in its infancy. However, President and CEO of BigHand, Inc., Steve Butterworth, sees momentum for voice-to-text technology building: Voice technologies, such as Dragons Smartphone application and Siri for iPhone, are becoming more commonplace in our everyday lives, offering us all a way to use our voices to save time and be more productive. These trends are making technologies like BigHand more applicable to lawyers and their firms at a time when we are all under pressure to get more done with less. It will be interesting to see the survey results for voice-to-text technology adoption in a year.
