Big Machine Design Gets into the Swing for USA Networks
Big Machine Design (BMD), a full-service creative services studio based in Hollywood, has designed and produced a main title sequence for USA Networks ?The Good Life of Golf Superstars, which will on that network air May 6th. The announcement was made today by BMD co-founders Steve Petersen and Ken Carlson.
On behalf of client Realand Productions, based in Los Angeles, and its executive producer Krysia Plonka, BMD was selected to design and animate the main title sequence and in-show graphics for the USA Network's special on the lifestyles of some of the PGA's most famous golfers. The network was looking for a clean, modern and dynamic way of introducing the PGA's golfers that looked different from the standard sports programming graphics usually seen by fans.
"Our design incorporates existing footage, but gives it an added element of depth and design that boring floating video boxes wouldnt have," said BMD Executive Producer Steve Petersen.
"This was another great opportunity to use our hybrid 3D/2D technologies which allow us to create elements in 3D space and composite them in 2D environments such as existing footage," said BMD Creative Director Ken Carlson. "What actually looked like 2D flat imagery was a complex 3D scene that allowed for really cool camera moves."
Regarding BMDs creative approach, Ms. Plonka said, ?Big Machine Design offers a keen visual sensibility only to be rivaled by their amiability -- they are equal parts fun and kick-ass design. They have the ability to adapt, adjust and make amendments along the way, which is just as important as their having a great design sense. Big Machine delivers big!

The company used Adobe After Effects 6.5 and Maxon Cinema 4D R9.
