Big Machine Design Completes Work on Stunt Junkies

Debuts on January 11th at 10 PM on The Discovery Channel (January 09, 2006)

Big Machine Design (BMD), a full-service creative services studio based in Hollywood, has completed a new main title opening sequence for ?Stunt Junkies which debuts on January 11th at 10 PM on The Discovery Channel.  The announcement was made today by BMD co-founders Steve Petersen and Ken Carlson.

On behalf of client CBS Eye Too Productions, BMD designed and produced the entire show graphics package including the Main Title Sequence. Michael Kovnat, the Supervising Producer of Stunt Junkies, said, ?We wanted an opening sequence that would set the show apart something that clearly expressed the shows themes while being stylistically daring and inventive. Big Machine nailed it.

Hosted by Jeb Corliss, ?Stunt Junkies is described as a show about extreme sports athletes who carefully plan, then execute, their stunts. The show focuses on the intensive planning that goes into safely performing a stunt like base jumping. It portrays the ?stunt junkies as athletes, not insane people who crave danger. The science behind these stunts is also an important element of the show.

"The producers of the show wanted to use actual footage from their  show and have the ability the rotate around the stunts ?Matrix style," said BMD Executive Producer Steve Petersen.  "This meant painstakingly modeling the stunt people and their equipment in our 3D software to be able to recreate angles that didn't exist."

"We focused on creating a look that matched the tone of extreme sports without relying on cliches associated with this genre," said  BMD Creative Director Ken Carlson.  "We also wanted the music to sound different from the usual guitar driven soundtracks that are a mainstay in extreme sports programming, so we worked with our composer, Albert Chang, to create a breakout percussion driven score that sounds entirely different, yet appropriate."
