Big Fish Games to Share Advertising Revenues with Game Developers

A growing ad market prompts Big Fish Games to lead the way in equitable sharing of online revenue (February 06, 2007)
DMN Newswire--2007-2-6--

SEATTLE – February 6, 2007 – Big Fish GamesTM (, a leading developer and distributor of casual games, today announced it will launch a new program to share advertising revenue from their rapidly growing online community games site with developers of online games. As part of a new tracking technology to be implemented in late first quarter 2007, Big Fish Games will be able to track advertising revenue generated by an individual game, and then pay developers a share of the revenue at a royalty rate comparable to what they currently earn from downloadable game purchases.

“Developers have historically only received a percentage-based revenue share for sales of game downloads, while game portals have traditionally kept 100 percent of the advertising revenues generated by their online versions of the games,” said Paul Thelen, CEO of Big Fish Games. “We’re excited to change this model for the better and offer developers a significant opportunity to share in this revenue stream.”

Big Fish Games currently works with more than 400 game developers to deliver downloadable and online games to more 25 million unique users each month.  With a global network of users and one of the 10 fastest growing Web sites on the Internet, Big Fish Games distributes more than 500,000 games downloads every day. With surging interest in online casual gaming, and a rebound in advertising rates in recent years, developers of online games have been clamoring for an equitable share of this revenue.

“We’re excited that Big Fish Games has listened to the voice of the development community and will be sharing the advertising revenue generated from their online games business,” says Daniel Bernstein, founder and CEO of Sandlot Games. “These royalties represent a new revenue stream for developers and we’re encouraged that Big Fish Games approached us with the opportunity to profit from content we already produce.”
