Berklee College of Music Taps Coda Music Software as Standard Notation Product

(August 02, 2001)
Berklee College of Music has teamed with Coda Music, a division of Net4Music, to make Finale the standard notation software on campus. The software, used by students and faculty, is fully supported by the staff at Berklee as well as Coda Music.

Finale gives users complete control over every aspect of the printed page and provides powerful control over MIDI input and output. Finale has won five consecutive awards for "Best Music Software" from MacWorld Magazine and has won more industry awards than any other notation software. The software's flexibility and ease of use make it the ideal choice for standardization at Berklee.

"Students have unlimited access to Finale," said David Mash, Berklee's Vice President for Information Technology. "Finale is by far the industry standard for professional music engraving work. We at Berklee are pleased to be able to offer our students access to this professional tool in all of our classroom and lab facilities, and to work with Coda/Net4Music to promote the use of technology products in music education."

According to Tony Marvuglio, Director of Information Technology Training and Support at the college, "Making Finale the standard has solved a lot of organizational issues at Berklee. It has removed the Tower of Babel from the software aspect of music. We've used Finale since the first version and have watched as continual upgrades have made it easier for students of every level to access its features."

Leading technology applications in music education are extremely important at Berklee College of Music, which has been advancing careers in contemporary music for more than 50 years. Mash stated, "Coda has been developing fine music technology products for years and we look forward to being part of this next generation of music education technology."

The world's largest independent college of music, Berklee has an enrollment of more than 3,400 students, 35 percent of whom are international. The college is the leader in music technology education, for both the creation and the teaching of music. The college's alumni include some of the most respected figures in contemporary music, including many multi-Grammy award winners.
